Arc de Triomphe - Paris

Arc de Triomphe. At the western terminus of the Avenue des Champs-Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe moves every heart. In 1940, Parisians were brought to tears as the Nazis stepped through the Arc; after four years of Nazi occupation, the city was liberated by British, American, and French troops, who marched through on August 26,1944, to the roaring cheers of thousands. The world's largest triumphal arch was commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon in honor of his Grande Armee. The terrace at the top has a fabulous view of Avenue Foch and the city.
